Currently pursing a DMA in Doublebass Performance at the University of Texas at Austin, David Ballam is an active musician and educator.  Mr. Ballam completed his master’s degree at Northwestern University (Evanston,IL) in doublebass performance and string pedagogy under the instruction of Peter Lloyd and DaXun Zhang, his current teacher.  David’s past studies also include performing in masterclasses for noted doublebassists Tim Cobb, Joseph Guastafeste, Paul Ellison, and Francois Rabbath as well as private studies in violone and baroque performance practices with Jerry Fuller.

Mr. Ballam has recently performed in the Austin area with the Austin Symphony Orchestra, Austin Lyric Opera, and the Austin Singers.  While living in Chicago, David also performed with the Elmhurst Symphony Orchestra, Dupage Symphony Orchestra, Wheaton Summer Symphony, Skokie Valley Symphony, and the Music Institute of Chicago.  David has appeared in recital at the University of Texas at Austin and also as a guest soloist with the Northwestern University Summer Orchestra in Evanston, IL   As a 2006 graduate of Wheaton College (IL) Conservatory of Music, Mr. Ballam holds two bachelor’s degrees; one in music education (with teaching certification) and the other in doublebass performance under Virginia Dixon.   David and his wife Suzanne enjoy living in Austin,TX with their 18 month old son Jack and shetland sheepdog Maggie.
