Happy 200th Birthday Robert Schumann!

Today marks what would be the great composer Robert Schumann’s 200th birthday.

What I love about this opening movement is the use of hemiola (2 against 3) in this 3/4 time signature.  In some ways this reminds me of what Johannes Brahms does all over the place in his writing, but particularly in his 3rd Symphony in F major.
