John Nelson Conducts Bach’s Mass in B minor- “Sanctus”

One of my favorite memories of attending Wheaton College (IL) was the opportunity to work with conductor and fellow Wheaton Alum, John Nelson.  As a music major in the Conservatory of Music many of the other students worked with maestro Nelson when he came to campus every few years.  Each visit the students in the orchestra and combined choirs rally together during an intense week of rehearsals to perform a monumental piece from the choral/orchestra repertoire.  The concert I was able to participate in was a complete performance Handel’s Messiah during the Spring of 2005.  Other works performed in recent years were Benjamin Britten’s “War Requiem” and Berlioz’s “Requiem”.

Here is a video of maestro Nelson directing the Ensemble Orchestral de Paris with choir and soloists.  John also works with Soli Deo Gloria whose mission is to promote the performance, composition, and publication of sacred music to the “Glory of God Alone” as JS Bach wrote on many of his scores.
