A Few Essential Teaching Materials

Every week I head up north of Austin to teach lessons in the Round Rock School District.  Here’s a list (by no means comprehensive) of some materials that I can’t leave the house with:

Essential Elements 2000– Bass Books I & II (beginning method book, very straightforward and easy to go through with little help)

Progressive Repertoire for the Doublebass, Vol.  2 by George Vance (excellent use of repertoire for teaching technique)

Vade Mecum by George Vance (compendium of scales, arpeggios, and right hand bow technical exercises)

Festival Performance Solos– String Bass by Carl Fischer (may Texas UIL solo pieces found in the book- great choices for recital or competition)

Scales sheet for beginners (1 octave through four sharps and four flats) found on my studio website

And of course, a tuner and pencils

I’ve found these resources to be essential to my teaching over the past few years.  Please leave me feedback in the comments section (below) with other suggested materials that might be useful for other bass teachers.
